Abstract

The chapter analyses the reforms of Italian intellectual property law that took place during the fascist period, with a particular emphasis on patents and copyright, and examines in parallel the attitude of the Fascist government vis-Ã -vis the international intellectual property system and foreign authors and inventors. In doing so, it sheds light on the reform process of Italian IP laws that took place between the two World Wars, and discusses the impact of fascist economic doctrines on the new patent and copyright systems, in terms of both internal policies and the positioning of Italy in the international arena. The aim is to discern whether and to what extent Mussoliniâs economic agenda and views effectively influenced the drafting of copyright and patent rules and the articulation of Italyâs international intellectual property policies. In this context, the research tries to unveil correlations between the degree of influence exerted by Fascism on copyright vis-Ã -vis patent law, and the relevance of copyright, compared to patents, for the Italian economy and the political agenda of the regime.
