With reference to the way Roberston addresses the problem of social order, the chapter explores the question of the normative cultural integration at the global level in terms of global morality. The analysis begins from an analysis of the general question of global morality as addressed by current thinkers such Rawls, Sen, Chomsky, and Küng. It then moves to sociology, and especially Durkheim’s theory, and on that basis, maps the question of a global morality, which it argues is a necessary dimension of the global social system, onto Robertson’s four-field model of globalization. With reference to selected illustrative examples, it suggests how a particular instance of the perceived violation of global morality anywhere in the world can be seen to manifest itself in each of the four components: at the level of the individual, the national society, the system of such societies, and ultimately (moral) humanity. It then incorporates the particularism-universalism schema to show how what it posits as a universal global morality manifests itself in diverse particularizations, namely glocalizations. The argument concludes with a sharp critique of how this global morality manifests itself so often through its violation, and this on hand of selected examples from around the world.
