Abstract

This chapter provides a first-person perspective on the aesthetic transformation of the philosopher Richard Shusterman into his literary-philosophical-photographical character known as âthe Man in Gold,â who appears in Shustermanâs The Adventures of the Man in Gold. A friend to the philosopher, Bukdahl is also a character in Shustermanâs The Adventures of the Man in Gold, and uniquely suited to explore his transformation from philosopher of art to performance artist and object of art. Here she makes a case for the book being a literary work of art based on a performative artistic practice that complements and provides insight into Shustermanâs philosophy.
