The Hittite capital Å apinuwa (modern OrtakÃ¶y) is located 55 km southeast of Ãorum. At the beginning of the 14th-century bc, in the Middle Hittite period, Å apinuwa was the administrative center of the Hittite Empire, and the Great King Tuthaliya iii and his queen Taduhepa, the royal couple, ruled from this city. In the archives discovered in OrtakÃ¶y-Å apinuwa, political, religious, and administrative texts relating to the administration of the state were recovered, and these texts relate to a large geographical area including Western and Southern Anatolia, Eastern Anatolia, Southeastern Anatolia, and Northern Syria. During the reign of Tudhaliya iii, when Å apinuwa was the capital, the regions of Kizzuwatna and IÅ¡uwa were under Hittite domination. This paper deals with the relationship between Anatolia and Syria in the light of the aforementioned texts, and many of the relevant texts are related to ^LÃSANGA âPriestâ Kantuzzili.
