Series Editors: Ming-Yeh T. Rawnsley, SOAS University of London, UK, and Wikanda Promkhuntong, Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia (RILCA), Mahidol University, Thailand
Asian Cinema and Screen is a series dedicated to advancing critical scholarship and creative inquiry into the rich, diverse, and dynamic screen cultures of Asia. The series aims to explore cinema, television, digital media, streaming platforms, and other screen-based practices across the region, including East, Southeast, South, Central, and West Asia, as well as Asian diasporas. By offering a platform for both established and emerging scholars, the series seeks to deepen our understanding of Asia’s screen industries, histories, aesthetics, audiences, and global influences, while fostering dialogue across linguistic, cultural, and disciplinary boundaries.
This series will welcome book proposals of monographs and edited volumes that engage with all aspects of Asian cinema and screen studies, including but not limited to film and screen history, theory, and criticism; genre and narrative analysis; intermediality; star/celebrity studies; auteur and filmmaker-focused research; film and screen cultures; audiences and fans; screen labour; production, distribution and industry studies; film geography; and transnational or comparative approaches. The series particularly encourages interdisciplinary works that intersect with fields such as media studies, creative industry studies, cultural studies, sociology, gender studies, and postcolonial theory. By embracing a wide range of topics, methodologies, and perspectives, Asian Cinema and Screen aspires to become a leading forum for innovative scholarship that reflects the evolving landscapes of screen media in and beyond Asia.
Authors are invited to submit proposals and/or full manuscripts to the Acquisitions Editor at Brill, Iulia Ivana. Please advise our Guidelines for a Book Proposal.
