Index of People and Places
The index of people is organized according to the following principles: (1) If a person is known by the first part of his name, then the name is not inverted, e.g., SuyÅ«nj Muḥammad Sulá¹Än. (2) If a person is known by some part of his name that is in the middle of the full name, then he appears with an equal sign and his full name, e.g., ZÄhid = Muḥammad ZÄhid KhvÄja. (3) If a person is known by a name that is different than his actual name, then he appears with an equal sign and his full name, e.g., ḤÄfiáº-i AbrÅ« = ShihÄb al-DÄ«n Ê¿AbdallÄh b. Luá¹fallÄh b. Ê¿Abd al-RashÄ«d BihdÄdÄ«nÄ«-KhvÄfÄ«. (4) If we know only a single name or part of a name and a title, then he appears with a comma and the title in parens, e.g., ZakarÄ«yÄ, (KhvÄja). (5) If we have a name that can be inverted with its title, it appears as in this example: YÅ«suf, Shaykh JamÄl al-DÄ«n.
