Abstract

In this article the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is evaluated against three main criticisms. The first concerns the conception of truth underlying the work of the TRC. The second concerns the difficult issue of reconciliation and its concomitant manifestations of amnesty and forgiveness. The third criticism concerns the question about the nature of the justice established through the work of the TRC. This is then theologically evaluated with reference to the work of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Dietrich Ritschl.
