The article is based on semi-structured interviews with Turkish viewers living in the single-channel era. In this context, 16 witnesses participated in this study. The basic structure of this study begins with the Turkish Radio and Television (TRT) era, the first serious television broadcasting process in Türkiye, and attempts to make sense of the ‘pioneering television broadcasting’ period through the memories and opinions of Turkish viewers. In this process, in addition to the place and meaning of television in daily life, the impact of the political institution on television broadcasting from the single-channel period to the present day will also be emphasized.
