Abstract

Europeans familiar with sacred Hindu art from visits to museums often are perplexed when they encounter similar objects in temples and sacred sites. The exhibits tend to look different. This can be explained by the different ways to present them as well as the different underlying conceptions which in turn guide the perception and behaviour of the beholders.
