Diversity of thermoregulatory variables and relative medullary thickness (RMT) of the kidney were compared among three Apodemus species in Israel, as well as between two populations of A. mystacinus from two different habitats. Significant differences in thermoregulatory abilities were found between the two populations of A. mystacinus, from Mount Carmel and Mount Hermon, as well as among A. mystancinus, A. hermonensis, and A. flavicollis. The highest RMT, 7.40 ± 0.26, was found in A. flavicollis, supporting the idea that this species is excluded by A. mystacinus, (RMT = 6.09 ± 0.41) into relatively more xeric habitats.
