Three closely similar species of subterranean cirolanid isopods are distributed in Israel and Sinai. Turcolana steinitzi, from Galilee, lives in water in which the chlorinity is <50 mg/1. T. reichi, from the Negev and eastern Sinai, is known from habitats with a water chlorinity of 240–1500 mg/1. T. detecta n. sp. is described; it was found at two spring complexes unveiled by a recent marine regression on the western shore of the Dead Sea, having a water chlorinity of 3000–4000 mg/1. T. detecta n. sp. differs from the other two species especially by its distinctly more slender and elongated uropods, this being even more evident for the endopodites, which have a distinct shape and a remarkably variable armature of the internal margin.
