Parathyroids of anurans have been reported to be influenced by season. In Bufo viridis, such changes were observed only in specimens which were kept for some time in captivity. In toads, killed immediately after capture in their natural habitat, only slight fluctuations were observed. The possibility that in captivity toads are exposed to changing environmental factors whereas in nature they are protected by their hiding place, is discussed.
