Abstract
Trauma-informed theology is a growing field alongside its application in ecclesial practice. However, before pastoral care and safeguarding practices can be outworked in the local church context, Sunday worship rituals offer the trauma survivor an opportunity to encounter God’s love. This paper explores the latent potential of liturgy and sacrament rituals to support this, particularly for those who have experienced gender-based violence. Where the shame, anger and fear of trauma strip identity, rituals can allow gentle and profound remaking of self in God’s image.
