Abstract

Erst 1997 und 1998 widmeten sich zwei groÃe Ausstellungen in Bonn und Wien der Exilfotografie und stellten Leben und Werk emigrierter, fast vergessener Fotografinnen und Fotografen vor. Weitere fÃ¼nf Jahre spÃ¤ter, 2003, nahm sich auch die âGesellschaft fÃ¼r Exilforschungâ des Themas Film und Fotografie an. Auch jenseits der eigentlichen Bedeutung beider Medien fÃ¼r das 20. Jahrhundert eine bemerkenswerte verspÃ¤tete Wahrnehmung, hatten doch sowohl der Film wie die Fotografie vielen Emigranten den Lebensunterhalt gesichert. Der in Hamburg geborene Francis Reiss emigrierte noch vor der Pogromnacht nach England und wurde als 17-JÃ¤hriger Fotograf bei der renommierten Illustrierten Picture Post. An sein bis heute wÃ¤hrendes fotografisches Schaffen soll hier erinnert werden.
