The larval and postlarval development of Blennius pavo Risso and its transition from planktonic to benthonic life are described in some detail.

At a water temperature of 24° (± 1°) and at a pH of 7.4–7.6, the larvae hatch after 225–235 hours and begin to feed one day after hatching, At the age of 27 days the fishes assume a benthic mode of life and their behaviour is then identical with that of young blennies, observed in natural surroundings.
