Abstract
Zarathustra, the prophet of traditional Iranian religion, and Saint Gregory the Illuminator, the founder of the Armenian Apostolic Church, are both said to have succeeded in convincing powerful rulers to change their religious views and impose the new faith on their subjects. Starting from the premise that Zarathustra’s and St. Gregory’s life stories were composed in the context of shared cultural traditions, this paper aims to identify common motifs in the two conversion narratives and to explore the possibility of their interdependence.
