This book presents a scholarly edition of the aforementioned scholarâs work, Pearl Necklaces: Affirming the Prophecy of al-Khaá¸ir and his Presence until the End of Time, with an introduction and commentary. The aim is to familiarize the reader with this important scholar, al-BakrÄ« al-á¹¢iddÄ«qÄ«, and the scholarly and cultural significance of his work.
What sets this work apart from other treatises dealing with the Ottoman period is its focus on the Egyptian historian and exegete AbÅ« al-SurÅ«r al-BakrÄ« al-á¹¢iddÄ«qÄ«, known for his close connections to the Ottoman authorities. In it we present an annotated edition, with an introduction and commentary, of a collection of letters entitled Pearl Necklaces: Affirming the Prophecy of al-Khaá¸ir and his Presence until the End of Time, in addition to another composition, A Letter Relating the Events Surrounding the Rebelling Troops That Came from Yemen and Entered Mecca, thus providing scholars and other interested parties with important historical sources that see the light of day for the first time here.
