The Scott DEXA (Dual Energy Xray Absorptiometry) scanner is designed to provide the benefit of direct and accurate objective carcase measurement (OCM) for each dressed lamb or beef carcase processed. Objective data enables processors to identify and support programs for producers that require OCM feedback and enable data to drive downstream plant production activity. The Scott DEXA carcase scanning system uses of specially developed algorithms in combination with multiple XRAY energy measurements to provide a correlation between a direct XRAY measurement of each carcase to be processed and its individual lean, fat and bone composition in addition to its anatomical skeletal structure. With direct measurement using DEXA technology processors are no longer left to estimate product composition through subjective measures that are often highly influenced by human operator involvement and have been shown to have very little accuracy. With a direct and reliable measurement processors can start to structure their businesses to monitor profitability and ensure lamb and beef production remains competitive in the years to come.
