Abstract

This chapter examines Bestie del 900, a collection of 12 short stories by Aldo Palazzeschi, complemented by 46 illustrations by Mino Maccari (1951). The celebration of originality and diversity, as well as the comparison between human and non-human animals, are elements that fully characterize Palazzeschiâs work in Bestie del 900. The present study explores the presence of modernist posthumanism in Palazzeschiâs collection. In particular, both Palazzeschiâs texts and Maccariâs illustrations tend to blur the lines between humans and âbeastsâ â thus suggesting how all that is âhumanâ should not be considered as directly emanating from an abstract notion of humanity, but rather as the result of the encounter with the other or the non-human.
