Young's enigmatic "screens" have now been identified as serving stands, each with an inlaid front face, openwork top piece, inlaid side pieces, and elaborate supporting structure. The back legs of both stands had decomposed, and the top pieces and supporting members had fallen to the tomb floor, leaving the faces leaning against the east wall. Young reported that both stands were wet when found, especially the top of stand A, which appeared "rotted," as is visible in the in situ photographs. The most imposing part of serving stand A is its inlaid front face, which featured fine woods of contrasting colors, areas worked in relief, and an amazing array of geometric patterns. The catalogue entry in Gordion I for serving stand B reads "dimensions the same as those of MM 378" (serving stand A). It states that stand B was put together in the same way as stand A.
